Dear LGBT Interbank Members,
We are pleased to invite you to a presentation on LGBT family rights, a current topic that will also be discussed in the Swiss Parlament next month.
For some, accepting the fact of being gay or lesbian implied the end to dreams of children and a family of their own. Others discovered or faced their homosexuality while already mothers or fathers.
Increasingly, gays and lesbians are claiming the right to enter partnerships and raise a family. Prejudice and homophobia persist and are often most visible and virulent when the subject is LGBT families. Children of patchwork families with gay or lesbian parents especially become targets, and are at risk of being forcibly extracted from their families upon the death of the biological parent. LGBT family rights have now become the subject of a swiss federal grant study and project.
These are not hypothetical issues, but directly impact some of our friends and their families, some of whom will assist the discussion.
“Rainbow Families” is an organization that brings the multiple aspects of LGBT family ambitions, security for children, and equal rights into focus.
Two brief presentations in German are followed by a Q&A session in German and English and discussion.
